Paul draws on the image of a race to describe the Christian life and what we can learn about how to live it, in whatever circumstances we find ourselves.

Paul makes clear that the Christian life demands a response of obedience as Jesus invites us to follow him. The way we live matters!

In Philippians 2-5-11 Paul explains how who Jesus is and what Jesus did is an example for Christians to follow whatever the cost, and an encouragement to do so.

The way we behave will depend on the setting we're in, but whatever our situation, the Bible gives us a clear instruction that our attitude should be the same as that of Jesus. That can be easier said than done, but God has shown us his love to us and we're to show it to others.

Paul demonstrated that our circumstances do not determine our joy. Writing from a Roman prison and in chains, he continues=d to minister to others. But what 'chains' are holding you back? We all have them, so how can we also find joy in suffering?

We begin a new series, working through the apostle Paul's letter to the Philippians. Despite writing from a Roman prison, Paul is able to encourage his readers to rejoice - how can that be? His letter sets out the reasons...

What do you think is essential for a healthy church, and a healthy relationship with God? That question should prompt us to consider how we recognise God's love for us, how we show love to others, how God's word dwells in us and how we honour Jesus in difficult circumstances.

Jesus was very clear that he wanted his followers to make him known to the rest of the world. He was also clear in promising his presence - "with you always, to the end of the age". So what stops us, and why can making him known be so difficult?

Concluding our series in Ephesians, Paul emphasises that Christians are engaged in a spiritual battle, but God has equipped us with everything we need to make a stand and to prevail against the enemy. We all have a part to play.

The theme of mutual submission and reverence for Jesus continues into practical steps for children, parents, employers and employees. We are all to bring the Lord into all we do - but that can be challenging!
